In the aftermath of the hurricane, which caused severe soil erosion and flooding in the mountainous regions of Western North Carolina, Rankin coordinated the delivery of approximately 1,000 cubic yards of nutrient-rich compost from Goldston to affected farms. This initiative, a collaboration between Meet My Neighbor Productions, Brooks Contractors, and other partners, aimed to restore soil health and support local agriculture.
“Getting compost to the mountains is like moving a mountain to the mountains — 1,000 cubic yards is a lot of dump trucks!” said Rankin.Spectrum News
The Spectrum News article also highlights the impact of these efforts on local farms and community gardens, such as the Dig In! Yancey Community Garden, which faced significant challenges due to the storm. The compost deliveries have been a crucial step in helping these communities rebuild and ensure food security.Spectrum News
